Columbia County Release Meanings
A release from Columbia County Prison means that the prison’s custody ended. It does not always mean the person walked into the community. Another may finish local custody but move to a state institution, federal authority, another county, or immigration custody. A deceased status is also custody-ending, but it should never be grouped with ordinary releases. Likewise, probation status alone does not supply the gate time. Precise wording protects the distinction between a legal outcome, a prison movement, and the later end of supervision.

Booking photographs may be stored and reviewed under different rules, so they should be requested separately. Medical, victim, juvenile, security, and personal-identification material can be withheld. If a releasable record contains protected material, Pennsylvania law allows the agency to redact that part and provide the remainder.

Pennsylvania’s Office of Open Records schedule permits specified copy, color, postage, media, and certification charges, while electronic delivery and review/redaction do not carry an added fee under that schedule. A request seeks records that exist; the agency need not create a custom report or rebuild material beyond its retention period.
Columbia County Release Record Law
Pennsylvania’s Right-to-Know Law, 65 P.S. §§ 67.101 et seq., presumes an agency record public unless an exception, privilege, another law, regulation, or order applies. Section 703 requires enough detail to identify the record. Section 705 says the agency need not create or compile a new one, and Section 706 supports releasing the public portion after redaction. Retention schedules still control under Section 507.
Public access may narrow when a matter is juvenile, sealed, expunged, subject to Clean Slate limits, privileged, or tied to protected investigative, victim, medical, or security material. The public tool does not display a projected, tentative, minimum, maximum, parole-eligibility, or sentence-complete date. Its supervised-person Release Date is a past release from state incarceration into supervision. It is not final discharge. A fully discharged person may disappear from both public modes, so use the sentencing docket and request DOC sentence-complete records when the later end of the sentence matters.

Columbia County is part of Pennsylvania’s 26th Judicial District. The local Prothonotary and Clerk of Courts office combines Common Pleas record functions. Bring a docket number or a specific name, identify the exact bail, sentencing, county-parole, or modification order, and ask about a certified copy when that form is needed.
The Court of Common Pleas and Clerk are at 35 West Main Street in Bloomsburg. A court order is strongest for judicial authority, while the prison’s release entry is strongest for the actual gate event. Keep both labels intact if their dates differ.
Weekend Columbia County Bail Release
The official Columbia County Prison bail section states that Magisterial District Judge bail is handled at the setting judge’s office on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It also says bail may be posted at the prison anytime on Saturday and Sunday. That weekend route is locally significant when a same-day court office is closed.
Posting bail does not dismiss the case or prove the exact exit time. Prison processing and another hold can delay departure. The UJS bail entry shows court context, while the prison record confirms when custody ended and whether another agency received the person.
Getting Home After Columbia Release

A released person or family should verify that the Iron Street pickup and final destination fall inside the current service zone. Availability also needs confirmation. Weekend, holiday, or overnight release requires a separate transport plan because the published weekday window does not cover those times.

Columbia County Prison opened in 1877 for 50 prisoners, underwent major renovation and expansion in 1995, and reports a current capacity of 250. The prison’s official visitation rules contain an uncommon post-release detail. A person released from Columbia County Prison must wait six months before visiting a resident there. A visitor who is currently on probation or parole needs written permission from the supervising agency.
